Not only did Delaware Valley start the fresh school year with new students, but on July 1, 2022, it also gained a new superintendent: Scott McKinney.

McKinney grew up in Union County, where attended Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights, NJ, where he would later teach.

After high school, McKinney went to Bucknell University. He graduated with a major in history and minor in education. McKinney would go on to earn his Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Scranton.

McKinney was a history teacher for ten years before he became joined the school administration.

“I was lucky enough to become assistant principal at the high school, and then after a year, the principal retired and I became principal,” said McKinney.

After seven years of being principal, the superintendent job became available, and that coming year was the new road of being a superintendent.

McKinney has worked with all age groups, though he has found high school students to be the most suitable for his skills.

“High schools are always home for me,” said McKinney.

When McKinney was teaching, he enjoyed being involved with the school in any aspect possible. He coached multiple sports, including football, baseball, basketball and both boys and girls track and field.

When it comes to his personal life, McKinney has been married for 22 years. His wife is a second grade elementary teacher, who, coincidentally, he met when they both were hired as teachers the same year.

McKinney has two sons; the oldest is a sophomore at The College of New Jersey and pursues football, and his youngest is a senior in high school who enjoys soccer and hopes to continue playing in college.

McKinney chose to work at Del Val because of the the students’ and administration’s drive to be the best in every aspect, whether that be sports, education or beyond.

“The things that stood out the most were really the atmosphere, the tradition,” said McKinney. “[Del Val] has a family atmosphere.”
