On Jan. 18, senior Elana Falkenstein joined the 1,000 point club.

Del Val Girl’s Basketball team defeated Pemberton, 66-34, and Falkenstein lead the Terriers with 26 points in this dominant win, achieving a rare career milestone by hitting 1,000 points.

When you talk to anyone who knows Falkenstein, hardworking and dedicated are the first thoughts that come to mind.

“At the beginning of the season, I set goals for myself and team, in hopes to win the conference,” Falkenstein said. “I personally have such passion for the game and drive to succeed that I don’t find myself losing motivation as I love the competition and the whole process, from watching film, to practices, to games.”

However, all this success doesn’t happen without struggles. Falkenstein has had her fair share of challenges over the course of her career.

“I have sprained my ankle each season and often need to get my right ankle taped” Falkenstein said. “Additionally, if my shot isn’t falling I feel an overwhelming guilt as I have let my team down because I put a lot of pressure on myself.”

Falkenstein doesn’t let these obstacles shadow her love for the game.

“The off games push me to do better at the next practice and work harder,” Falkenstein said.

Throughout her basketball career, Falkenstein has had a rock of support: her mom.

“My mom has been my biggest support, as after each game she would constantly remind me that everything happens for a reason and it will all work out,” Falkenstein said. “Since I was younger, she would always push me to be my best as well as be there for me when I was down.”

Falkenstein also attributes her success to her entire team.

“My teammates have been a big support in my success as they constantly push me to do my best as well as pick me up when I am down,” Falkenstein said. “They allow me to play with confidence because I know they will have my back. The next thing is winning games. We have put ourselves in a great position to go far in states and win our conference.”

The Terriers are currently 13-6 as of this article’s publication.
