The Delphi

About

Started in 1964, Delaware Valley Regional High School’s newspaper, The Delphi, has been covering the news for the Del Val community for over five decades. The paper’s name was selected in 1968 as part of a contest in which the student body voted on the best submission. Since its formation, The Delphi has cycled through multiple advisors and plenty of staff members, all of whom have held the same goal: to report the news to the Del Val community. The Delphi has published news articles, opinion columns, horoscopes, polls, short stories and more throughout its history, and it hopes to rekindle this long-held tradition of spreading the news and culture to its readers.

Since its redesign, The Delphi has expanded rapidly. As of 2018, The Delphi began hosting its first podcast, Dark History, produced by Sarah Nerwinski. It has continued to produce podcasts such as Where Does it STEM?  hosted by Abby Eckert and Taylor Negrin as well as Book Yappers hosted by Ellie Lyons and Ella Genovese.

Since first experimenting at the end of 2018, and 2019, The Delphi has grown its social media presence across multiple platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok. The staff has regularly published content through its many outlets, including shows such as “Guess the Teacher” on Instagram and student interviews on TikTok.

During the 2021-22 school year The Delphi continued its expansion by developing its Junior Journalism Program, reaching out to all of Del Val’s sending districts to work alongside our community and involve the middle school youth as a part of our staff. This gives students the opportunity to cover events at their schools and see them published on this site.

Over the past four years, The Delphi staff has achieved its long-term goal of becoming an international SNO Distinguished Site. After receiving it in both May 2022 and 2023, the staff set a new record by accomplishing it five months earlier in Jan. 2024. It is with joy that we recognize the endless hard work of The Delphi staff that has led to this achievement three years in a row. It is our goal to continue to accomplish the honor of obtaining the title of one of SNO’s Distinguished Sites.

The 2023-2024 staff also entered GSSPA’s annual contest, where they took first place in the state for Overall Online Excellence for online newspapers. Editor in Chief Gianna Roberts, Managing editor Abby Eckert and advisor Brian Smith also presented a session on how build a podcast.

In 2024, three of The Delphi’s editors, including Sara Matthews and Veronica Hart (2024 co-Editors-in-chief) as well as Gianna Roberts (2024 Managing Editor), won the National Student Press Association (NSPA) Leadership Award.

In 2025, Managing editors Abby Eckert, Emma Haig and Ella Genovese and videographer Adrienne Wolfram also received the award. This honor has been given to approximately 1,500 high school students nationwide, and, each year, students from The Delphi were the only winners in the state of New Jersey. The award highlights student journalists who have demonstrated staff leadership, accomplishment in the journalism field, an upholding of the NSPA Model Code of Ethics and a high academic standing. Gianna Roberts and Abby Eckert were also named as two of the 10 GSSPA New Jersey All-Star journalists.

For the 2025-2026 school year, journalism has joined the Business Academy at Del Val, so students can now graduate high school with a focus in journalism.  The Delphi is looking to expand its horizons to include articles from contributing writers, comic strips and other forms of publications in order to honor the rich history of its past. The Delphi has extended into a club in order to achieve this goal. If you are interested in becoming part of The Delphi staff, please reach out by emailing thedelphi@dvrhs.k12.nj.us or sign up to take journalism classes next year.
