Although study halls can be a useful time for students to catch up on work, sometimes there is no work to complete from being all caught up. For 84 minutes, the only entertainment can be talking with friends, if students have any in their study hall, or going on their phone.
As of Jan. 20, Del Val has begun offering 10 Nintendo Switch consoles in The Commons during study halls, lunch or for club use.
“We got a grant to get the Switches for S.E.L. opportunities,” Del Val head of curriculum Tara Civitillo said. “Eventually we want to offer an ESports team.”
The school is trying to build up the number of students interested; they are also currently looking for a coach. In order to start the team, the school must pay a hefty fee, which is the reason they need students who are committed.
“Having these Switches allows students during their break times to have fun, and it helps bring them together,” Civitillo said.
With this offering, students get to decompress and connect with each other, and they get their social, emotional and learning break (SEL).
Students must scan their student ID in order to hold them accountable for any possible damages.
