Junior Journalism Program
Back for the 2022-2023 school year, “The Delphi” is offering a junior journalism program to middle school students from the Del Val sending districts. This program will offer students the opportunity to work with high school journalism students to learn how to cover the news at the sending districts.
Students will meet with the Journalism advisor, Mr. Smith, and a team of high school journalists through virtual club meetings throughout the year where the students will learn how to write articles and discuss events occurring at the schools that students can cover while making friends with the high school students who will be serving as mentors for the middle school students.
There are many benefits for the students who join the program:
- Students will receive high school-level writing instruction that will help them both as members of the junior “The Delphi” staff and in their classes.
- Students will be invited to the high school to work side-by-side with high school journalists and “The Delphi” advisor at athletic events.
- Students will be assigned a high school mentor who will help them edit their articles for digital publication on “The Delphi’s” website, sno.dvrhs.org.
- Students articles can also be shared and published on their sending district school’s website and social media accounts.
- Students will have a head start on the Journalism curriculum path that offers an honors-level concurrent enrollment course and an opportunity for an honors society induction as a high school student.
