Del Val students walking through the halls today were greeted by the hall monitor, Val Bart, who was introducing a new sense of style to the school day. Known for keeping students moving and enforcing hallway rules, Bart focused on turning the school hallways into a fashion runway.
“I always make sure that students are in class on time and that they are not fooling around, but today, I wanted something more special,” Bart said. “Everyone knows how much I love and think a good sense of fashion is important.”
Each hallway had a strip of tape in the center marking the official runway. Instead of reminding students to hurry to class, she encouraged them to slow down, carry themselves with confidence and be aware of how they presented themselves to the school as they walked.
As students passed through, Bart paid attention to everyone’s outfits and posture. Students who were in a rush to class were asked to walk with a fashionable purpose. The hallways took on a more interesting and entertaining vibe — with students becoming more aware of their appearance and movements.
The unexpected but fun change shocked many students at first. However, others felt it was fitting that Bart would create a fashion runway.
“I was not surprised that, out of all the staff, Ms. Val would do it,” sophomore Britney Peña Guevara said. “She has always made her fashion sense known.”
A normal part of the day became something more interactive. Some enjoyed the experience, taking the walk seriously, while others believed they were too cool for the runway.
“At first, I was embarrassed, but when Ms. Val told me to do it with confidence and to let the embarrassment go, I felt much better,” Peña Guevara said.
Teachers also became a part of the fun. By lunchtime, the entire school was aware of Bart’s creativity and were excited to walk in the halls.
“I made sure that teachers were also part the experience because everyone deserves to be happy at work,” Bart said.
The experience for teachers and students made new memories for everyone, and anticipation for the next runway is growing. Although the school day continued as usual, the changes in the hallway environment were apparent.
Bart has always shown dedication to make sure that every hallway is in order, but today, she showed dedication to her own fashion show, leaving a lasting impression on both students and style.
