On Jan. 10, 2024, Delaware Valley will be hosting a Wing Bowl during the Gold Rush pep rally.
The Wing Bowl is a new idea, inspired by the ones held in Philadelphia during the Super Bowl. Principal Kays decided to bring the event to Del Val after his previous school district successfully held one.
Wing Bowl will be run by the Sport and Spirit Club, and there will be 12 randomly selected contestants. Sign-ups occurred from Dec. 5 to Dec. 8, and once participants are selected.
These contestants may have an alias and entourage to support them throughout the competition. All names, music and costumes must be school appropriate, and contestants must have parental consent.
All 12 contestants will take part in a fundraiser for the Hunterdon County Food Pantry. Whoever raises the most money will get a bye in the first round of competition.
To determine the winner, there will be two timed rounds. The first round will feature all of the contestants, and the second round will only be the top four who advanced. The winner of the second round will then be named Wing Bowl Champion.
“I’ve never heard of Del Val doing anything like this, so it’s really exciting,” said sophomore Ally Moschberger. “I hope this will really bring up the energy levels during the pep rally.”
Terriers, get your voices and your stomachs’ ready for Jan. 10.
