On Tuesday, April 29, the Del Val softball team clinched the division title by beating Gill St. Bernard’s 5-2.
Led by head coach Asa Whittaker and a strong core of players, the Lady Terriers have powered through their season with a record of 10-4 so far.
‘This win means everything,” said junior outfielder Melanie Tramo. “We’ve all worked so hard, and this title validates all the sweat we’ve put in.”
Junior Lilly Rynearson led the team in runs, scoring two; junior Brooklyn Liskowacki had two hits; and sophomore pitcher Grace Slack had nine strikeouts and only allowed two runs.
“We really did come together as a family. Every player contributed, on the field, at practice and in supporting one another. That’s what made the difference,” senior captain Lindsey Ditmar said.
With this division win, the Lady Terriers are expected to get a prime seed in both the state and Hunterdon-Sussex-Warren tournaments.
The Delphi sends its sincerest congratulations to this team and is excited to see how far it will go.
