On Feb. 1, Beyoncé announced her Cowboy Carter Tour in support of her album “Cowboy Carter.” Fans expressed their excitement and enthusiasm for the tour and new creativity to come.
As anticipation grew for the presale, many fans worried about whether or not they’d secure a set of tickets due to fake fans.
“Yesss y’all go ahead and ‘cancel’ Beyoncé so I don’t have to fight fake fans for these upcoming Cowboy Carter tickets,” X user @inhsadin said.
Attendance at concerts usually follows what music people enjoy, with most fans going to tours for albums they enjoy. Even though people’s music tastes can change over time, it comes off as strange when someone talks badly about an artist, but then shows up at their concert anyway. Many have criticized this as “stealing” tickets from actual fans.
However, the price of tickets is sparking debate. Standard tickets range from $70 to $400, but premium tickets are set at higher price ranges, from $732 to $2,958. These prices are before taxes and fees applied by Ticketmaster.
The high price points of these tickets have led to suspicions that Beyonce’s ticket sales are falling flat. Multiple sources, including Yahoo and NewsNation, reported that the tour is underperforming, and only three out of the 32 dates have completely sold out.
As shown here, the Los Angeles dates have barely sold, which is usually one of the most popular locations for artists. It’s odd that not even Los Angeles is running to buy tickets.
Live Nation released two statements regarding an extra date being added to the tour, as well the tour being almost completely sold out across all 32 dates, which shifts the narrative that the tour is actually not failing and that there’s even higher demand for this tour.
There seems to be many sides to these ticket dilemmas. It’s unclear if this is disinformation or is Beyoncé losing her reign. The Cowboy Carter Tour kicked off on April 28 in Los Angeles for five dates at the Sofi Stadium. Only time will tell how many tickets are sold by the end of this tour.
