Deftones’ new album Private Music leans into new, experimental sounds while still staying true to the music that has defined them for decades. The record showcases an even balance of heavy beats and dreamlike melodies.
Deftones formed in Sacramento, California and rose to fame in the mid 1990s. A few more mainstream songs include: “Change (In the House of Flies),” “My Own Summer (Shove It),” “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away),” “Sextape” and “Cherry Waves”. The new album reminded fans and listeners all over the world why the band, and its music, are still going strong.
This marks the band’s first album since “Ohms” in 2020. The record was co-produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who previously worked with Deftones on their albums “Diamond Eyes” and “Koi No Yokan.”
Standout tracks include “cXz,” “cut hands” and “infinite source.” They are catchy, aggressive, have strong guitar parts and powerful vocals. The contrast of Chino Moreno’s soft whispers to intense screams add to the uniqueness and draw of the band. The album does not upend their established style, showing that even after over 30 years together, Deftones is still advancing while staying true to their original sound.
As Deftones continues their North American tour, fans can expect a very immersive live experience that entails the classics along with the new songs of Private Music.
