This year, the Golden Regiment Marching Band presents “Marian: The Lady Hood of the Sherwood Forest”.
The ensemble presents a show about the retelling of the story of Robin Hood. In this retelling the roles are reversed, and Marian is the hero of the story trying to save Robin Hood. The show features solos from junior Charlotte Lilly and senior Tyler Crowl.
Lilly has been a part of the band for four years and has been preparing herself for the season.
“I had my music memorized in two hours,” Lilly said. “Everyone has their own pace, mine is just a little quick. I had to practice marching because I hadn’t marched in a while.”
The director of the band, teacher TJ Hayden, has been happy to see how the band has performed on and off the field. Hayden enjoys seeing the band work hard and help each other.
“Sometimes I feel like nothing would work if I am not the missing piece in there, and that is like so far from the feeling that I have this year,” Hayden said. “[This] is giving me freedom to go and be helpful where I can be helpful as opposed to feeling like I’m holding it all together.”
The band’s drum major, senior Maya Sliver, has watched the band build their confidence and make new friends.
“I feel like everybody was a bit shy at first, but after band camp, I feel like we’re all getting along.” Sliver said. “We all feel like we’re on the same team.”
This group of musicians has been working and practicing since the beginning of August, and their hard work paid off at Del Val’s first football game of the season on Aug. 28. Currently, they are perfecting their show for their first competition on Sep. 12 at Emmaus High School.
