Zach Bryan, a growing artist with over 27.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, has proven to be one of the most popular country artists of this generation.
Some of his most known songs include; ”Something in the Orange,” “I Remember Everything“ and “Heading South.”
Bryan released his debut album, “DeAnn,” in Aug. 2019, and his most recent album, “The Great American Bar Scene,” was released in July 2024.
In late 2024, he surprised fans with two singles called ”High Road” and ”This World’s a Giant.”
The two songs are very similar to many of his older music, they carry a heavy meaning and sad lyrics.
The first song, “This Worlds A Giant,” was the first of the two songs released.
The song has a similar guitar sound that is so often found in his songs. The low pitch and lyrics make it a perfect song for a slow night, or when you feel the need to sing your heart out to a song that hits close to home.
If you liked “This Worlds a Giant,” you’d like “Spotless,” “Sun to me” and “Better Days.”
The second song, “High Road,” carries a depressing theme. One of the strongest lines from the songs was, “She’s bound to come back and haunt you forever / There’s ghosts in the windows and walls / I’ve waited by the telephone all fucking night / For someone that ain’t ever gonna call.”
This line resonates with people in different ways. One being dependent on the listener’s past relationships. Since many listeners have described this song as being a song for heartbreak, a person with a rough relationship history may feel deeper connected to this song.
On the website, Holler, author Maxim Mower pulled a quote from one of Bryan’s Instagram stories. Bryan said “After not being home for a year and a half I drove out to my mothers gravestone in the dead of night a few days back on familiar Oklahoma roads and I came to realize just like in the past, that she never would call me again”
Overall, “High Road” is a song you would want to put on after losing someone or if you are experiencing a breakup. The lyrics carry empowering words and it is the perfect song to guide you through a hard time in your life.
If you liked Zach Bryan’s single, “High Road,” you should consider listening to his other songs: “Dawns,” “Something in the Orange” and “Sweat DeAnn”
Both of these songs are strong. If you like Zach Bryan’s older music, you will like these two songs. The lyrics and the instruments all play into making both songs great. However, “High Road” was the better of the two.
“This Worlds a Giant” is 3/5 stars. In comparison to other Zach Bryan songs, it is not comparable. Other songs contain more meaningful lyrics that flow better together.
“High Road” is 5/5 stars. The lyrics establish a meaningful connection to the lyrics, and the instrumental music is irresistible.
