A long line of customers stretched across the shop’s interior, as the sweet smell of warm dessert drifted through the area. The store filled with excitement as people discussed their orders.

Those two sentences capture the atmosphere of recently opened Duck Donuts in Flemington, New Jersey. On May 10, the store had its grand opening at 7 a.m. with a unique opportunity for customers.

The store offered the first customer a free dozen doughnuts every month, while the following 50 customers were offered a coupon for the store.

Duck Donuts originates in the North Carolina’s Outer Banks and quickly grew into a popular chain restaurant. I had heard rumors of the franchise’s quality food, so after I heard about the grand opening, I knew I had to try the doughnuts for myself, and they did not disappoint.

I first ordered the Peanut Butter Paradise doughnut. It was the perfect balance of chocolate and peanut butter and tasted similar to a Reese’s peanut butter cup. Out of the doughnuts I ordered, this one was my favorite, and I would rate it a 10/10.

The next doughnut flavor I tried was Bacon in the Sun. The doughnut had unique flavors and featured bacon along with a sweet frosting. Although the frosting was delicious, the bacon flavors did not shine through as much as I expected them too. However, the sweet and salty combination did not disappoint. The doughnut was delicious, and I would rate it a 7/10.

In addition to great doughnuts, they also had delicious milkshakes. I tried the cookies and cream milkshake, which was excellent. The cookies were well balanced with the ice cream, and they created an amazing drink together. Overall, I would rate the milkshake a 9/10.

The service was also great. Although the line was long, which makes sense for a resturant’s grand opening, the food was made quickly and the employees were friendly. Megan Suarez and her husband Phil own the store, and were inspired to open it by their vacations in the Outer Banks.

The Suarez family visits the Outer Banks annually, and Duck Donuts has taken a positive role in making those vacations special.

“We thought, ‘Why not bring that closer to home so we could have that first-day-of-vacation feeling more often?’” Suarez said.

Duck Donuts has a large selection of uniquely flavored doughnut on the menu, making it an interesting place to visit. Suarez’s favorite doughnut on the menu is the Peanut Butter Paradise doughnut.

“I think the made-to-order, warm, delicious concepts makes it unique over some of the other doughnut brands out there,” Suarez said.

So far, the store has had great reception online as well. Customers have expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the doughnuts. I would rate my experience at this store a 9.5/10.

“We’re really excited to bring all this to Flemington and the surrounding community,” Suarez said.
