Amazon Takes Books off the Shelf That Portray LGBTQIA+ as a Mental Illness
April 13, 2021
As of the beginning of March, Amazon has started removing books from its store that present the idea that if you identify as LGBTQIA+, you have a mental illness.
When interviewed for The Hill, Amazon’s Vice President, Brian Huseman, said, “…we reserve the right not to sell certain content,” and “all retailers make decisions about what selection they choose to offer, as do we.”
This decision was made after four republican senators asked why the book When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment was taken off the shelves.
Some feel this is a move by huge companies to get away with censoring their opinions, while others are glad this decision was made in hopes of decreasing the stigma around the LGBTQIA+ community.
