Artificial Intelligence and robots have been something humans have thought about for a long time.
One of the first movies about robots, “The Master Mystery,” was made in 1918. Humans have always had a tendency to think about the future, but the 20th century was a turning point when many people began pondering about the future and its technological possibilities.
Movies like “Bladerunner,” “Back to the Future,” and “The Terminator” were made during this heightened time of discussion, but many of them portrayed robots and AI in a negative light.
These previous fantasies are now becoming a reality. AI has been created, and real robots are being improved. Today, AI has become readily available to the masses.
Many people have accepted AI and have been using it to their advantage. However, others believe that this tool will cause a major problem to the media industry and damage society at large.
AI is affecting schools, as many students have started using it to write essays or cheat. Research has found that 46% of students are using AI in school. Although some students are only using AI tools such as ChatGPT to help them format an essay or ask it questions, the majority are using it to cheat on assignments and tests.
Schools are trying to deal with this trend by using AI checkers; however, it’s been found that the these checkers are highly inaccurate, so it’s difficult to know what’s true.
The versatility of AI is already starting to help the masses by completing tasks such as hacking, and it is also leading to further automation of machines. For example, garbage trucks can now dump out garbage without the need for a person.
AI voices have already been used to replicate famous peoples’ voices in a practice known as deepfakes. Further development could lead to the possibility that voice actors will no longer be needed.
AI can now also create art. Since the tool is powerful and can create virtually anything, many people don’t ask artists for commissions anymore. AI animation has already been tested and once this is perfected, it could replace animators.
These creations have started a problem in the art community. Most artists don’t support this form of art, and many now have to question if the art they find online is AI generated or not.
Not only could it replace voice actors and animations, but writers could be at risk, too. AI can write entire TV shows and movie scripts when asked.
Smaller jobs like cashiers have been replaced by self checkouts. Elon Musk is creating a robot, known as Optimus, that can complete chores or other desires and is expected to release in 2027. These are only some of the many things AI can or will be able to do with time.
AI will take people’s jobs. Once robots are widely available, nothing is stopping companies from using them to sell their products. Although it may be expensive to purchase these robots at first, this cost doesn’t compare to the wages paid to real people.
With so much AI assistance, society may become lazy. While there are still many hard workers, each new generation has been affected by the convenience of technology.
With one purchase, a person now has a robot to do all of their chores. The further development of robots could lead to them being able to do larger tasks, such as getting groceries for you.
Humans need to have some sort of responsibility because it motivates them and helps them feel connected. Humans have worked for hundreds of years and the culture of completing tasks is a vital to human life. If this gets taken away by robots, then we will lose an important part of being “human.”
Although, AI isn’t all bad. It can be used to aid people that have questions and stop putting others in dangerous jobs, like the police force.
Despite the benefits, AI has more negatives than positives. At best, it will disrupt our lives and make us lazy. At worst, AI will take jobs, disrupt the school system and change media as we know it.
