Astrology is a common interest among teenagers and adults that consists of star signs, astrology is whether it’s made up or if there is any science behind it.
Each sign has traits assigned to it, like what people like in relationships, their favorite activities, how sensitive they are and more, but many people do not agree with these stereotypes and say that it’s all made up.
In 2012, the General Social Survey reported that 34% of Americans surveyed consider astrology to be “very” or “sort of scientific.” However, there was a decrease from two-thirds to around one-half in the fraction of people who do not believe astrology to be scientific.
A 150% increase on horoscope pages occurred in 2017 compared to 2016, as reported by “The Cut” magazine. Most people will read their horoscopes in the morning to prepare, and use as a base, for their days.
Others have different opinions on the topic, disbelieving that star signs decide what personality traits are “assigned” to them.
“I do think there is some science behind the signs, like with the stars at least, but someone’s sign does not depict a persons personality,” said junior Carter Gordon. “Like having a least favorite or favorite sign shouldn’t be a thing. It’s so stupid.”
As someone who likes astrology, I realize that making the decision to like someone because I am compatible with them is not reasonable. Our signs might be, but that doesn’t mean we “match.” My best friend is a Libra and I’m a Cancer, and usually these signs are not supposed to be compatible. Our friendship has been ongoing for 12 years.
Astrology does have some science behind it, but there’s no science behind what personality traits someone has.
In the end, whether there’s science behind Astrology or not, it’s not going to affect someone’s life if they believe in it.
