This year, Del Val’s spring break is 10 days long, including weekends.
The average spring break is between seven to 10 days. While this year’s break is a normal length, Del Val’s spring break of 2022 was two days. Without weekends, this year’s break is six days off, but students are guaranteed weekends off.
The break from school is nice and it releases stress from teenagers.
According to “Psychology Today’s” 2023 Stress Statistics, 75% of students experience stress, anxiety or depression surrounding school. 3/4ths of students have school-related mental issues, and those numbers are much higher than they should be.
In the beginning of the school year, there are more breaks from school. In Nov. there is a four-day break for Thanksgiving and winter break, which starts Dec. 23.
“Every time I’m back from a long break, I just feel more motivated to do my work,” junior Carter Gordon said. “I get back into the mindset of wanting to do my work.”
Then from Jan. 2 to March 29, there are rarely breaks. Taking breaks from school is important for students’ mental health. They are more relaxed when they return from break and are more motivated to work harder.
Breaks from school are easily the best way to relieve students of stress, and even if it adds another week of school, many students won’t mind.
“Being a student athlete takes a really big toll on mental health, and I’m at that age where I also work, so it adds a lot of pressure, so having that time off is super important,” Gordon said.
