On Friday, Sept. 27, Del Val’s varsity football team took on Voorhees High School during Voorhees’s Homecoming game. So far, Del Val has a 3-1 record, and during this game, Del Val put up its highest scoring record since 2010, beating Voorhees 57-6.
The game started out in cold and rainy weather, but Del Val didn’t let that affect its playing. The Terriers managed to take the lead in the first quarter, with Kelton Ibach scoring a touchdown. However, the game didn’t “really” get started until the second quarter. As the rain cleared, Del Val scored an impressive 31 points, and the Vikings were unable to keep up, scoring only one touchdown.
For the second half, the Terriers were able to build on its lead. Eric Klemmer and Ben Cobb both scored in the third quarter, and Jayden Brown scored the final touchdown of the game.
Del Val’s Evan Strochak explained what this big win against their rivals meant for them.
“They [Voorhees] were talking smack before the game about some of our players, so it felt good to win,” Strochak said.
The Dawg Pound helped to motivate the Terriers to victory. During this game, students stayed through the bad weather to help cheer on their school. Sophomore Regina Totten explained what the atmosphere is like inside the student section.
“It’s really nice in the Dawg Pound,” Totten said. “You get really loud and really passionate when you’re in it. It’s really empowering to hear the chanting of your fellow classmates and your friends, or even people you don’t know.”
