On Oct. 4, Del Val football beat South River, 37-8, in a roller coaster of a game.
The night began with the Homecoming Court’s walk onto the field and the announcement of the winners. Elana Falkenstein and Christian Jensen were crowned this year’s Homecoming King and Queen.
Afterward, the Del Val football team ran into the stadium accompanied by cheers from the student section, the Dawg Pound.
Spirits were high, and soon into the game, Del Val scored a touchdown, making the game 7-0.
Del Val scored another six points on a breakaway and made the extra kick.
Through the burst of rain, the cheerleaders kept their pep, performing a variety of stunts to the tunes of Del Val’s marching band.
The Dawg Pound continued cheering on the team, and four touchdowns were scored and one two-point safety. This left the score 37-0 at the end of the first half.
The marching band and color guard performed their shows during half-time. Fans purchased food and drinks from the concessions stand as well as temporary tattoos from the Thespians.
During the second half, the majority of the Dawg Pound left except a few students.
Few Dawg Pound members were left to cheer on the JV players who participated in the second half.
South River scored a touchdown and two-point conversion, making the score 37-8.
To end the game, Del Val had another breakaway, bringing some excitement back into the night, even with the minimal crowd.
After another dominate game, head coach Benjemin Ibach is optimistic about the rest of the season.
“The guys right now, they’re dialed in,” Ibach said. ” They’re on a mission, they’re taking each game one at a time and getting better every day.”
Homecoming weekend ended with the “Neon Light” dance on Saturday night.
