The weight room is loud as both the JV and Varsity wrestling teams are gathered together to celebrate Del Val’s undefeated regular season.
The team, lead by head coach Andy Fitz, earned a 19-0 record after its win against Watchung Hills, bringing the team to a total of 896 wins in the program’s history.
Over the last two weeks, the team broke two records: the program’s first undefeated season and its longest undefeated streak. The team, over the course of two seasons, has won 27 consecutive matches, beating the previous record of 21 wins, which was set during the 1991 season.
The team held the match on Feb. 11, beating Watchung Hills 58 – 13.
With pins from Michael Hasson, Sebastian Dobak, Hunter Taffera and Luke Cyphert, the team ended their regular season with a dominant victory.
The Terriers are now preparing for sectionals and states next week. Del Val will host the beginning of sectionals with two matches on Feb. 16, 2026.
“Right now, we just want to continue to wrestle well, improve in spots we can, but really rest,” Fitz said. “We gave the [wrestlers] a day off. All the pins are exciting, gets us off the mat. It lessens the chance of injury. We had a fun night tonight, finishing out the regular season.”
