On Thursday, May 1, Del Val girls lacrosse achieved the division title, beating Somerville 16-12.
The team, led by Coach Stephanie Rifflard, has had a strong journey this season, pushing through every challenge to achieve a current record of 16-1. The team has shown exceptional skills, teamwork and flexibility.
“It’s pretty big because there hasn’t been a girls lacrosse division winner in a very long time,” senior Elana Falkenstein said. “So it really shows that we are leaving our mark.”
Falkenstein led the team in goals, scoring six. Senior Taylor Tavernite recorded three assists, and junior Gwendolyn Taffera had six saves.
The team is more than halfway through their regular season, and then they will move onto States. They have overcome many challenges and thrived with confidence.
“When we played Somerville for the first time, we beat them 13-3, we thought it was going to be tough, and it definitely was, but we just outplayed them,” Falkenstein said.
This game was a turning point during the season, where they realized how much potential they had and how their hard work has paid off.
With the division title in hand, the Del Val Girls Lacrosse team looks forward carrying on this success throughout the season. As their team is already dominating, it sets a favorable outcome for the future seasons.
“With our ability to work together, we really came together with a common goal,” Falkenstein said.
