Del Val staff will take on Strike Out Hunger New Jersey All-Stars during the third annual NJ Strike Out Hunger event on June 6.
Strike Out Hunger NJ is a local organization started back in 2013, with a goal of supporting near by food pantries. History teacher James Kluska explains more about how Del Val got involved in the event.
“Some of the people in the local community approached me, Joe [Toye] and Jay Arancio, and they approached me about a softball game between the Del Val staff and the local community All-Stars,” Kluska said.
Kluska sympathized with the struggle many food insure individuals face.
“I always say the question is ‘what am I going to eat tonight?’ not ‘if I’m going to eat tonight?” Kluska said. “I think all of us can do our part.”

This will be the third year the Del Val staff takes on the NJSOH All-Star team. The Del Val players are looking for a win after losing the first two games.
“We are going to win this game, we have a lot of youngsters on the staff coming down and some experienced players,” Kluska said.
This year’s event will be held on Del Val’s varsity softball field, with the first pitch being thrown out at 9:30 a.m., and food and festivities to follow after the game. If you want to watch, all that is required for entry is to bring a non perishable food item.
“It’s about working together for a common cause, which is to raise food to help people that are in need,” Kluska said.
Students can help support the cause by donating food items to baskets located throughout the building.
