The cast and crew of Del Val’s 2025 fall play, “Back to the 80s,” are in their last steps of production as they prepare to hit the stage this month. After beginning rehearsals in mid-Sept., the students and staff are excited to bring this high energy, time traveling comedy to the Del Val community.
Unlike last years’ dramatic “Little Women,” “Back to the 80s” is a lighthearted comedy filled with different ’80s movies, TV shows and nostalgic ’80s references.
“I didn’t actually choose the play myself,” Director Lisa Cartwright said. “Each spring, I send out a list of potential shows, and the students vote. ‘Back to the 80s’ was their pick, and it’s been such a fun change of pace.”
With returning to lead the fall production, Cartwright is thrilled with how everything has come together.

“I’m excited,” Cartwright said. “This is my fourth production, so I feel a little seasoned now. Everything is coming together really easily, and it looks great.”
Senior and Thespian treasurer Claire McGovern, who stars as Bitsy, said this play is one of her favorites.
“I was so happy when I got the part,” McGovern said. “Bitsy was the role that I was going really hard for, and to actually get the role that I wanted for the first time, it was frickin’ amazing.”
McGovern is cherishing her final fall play as a senior at Del Val.
“It’s bittersweet,” McGovern said. “Some of these people won’t be in the musical, so this is my last chance to perform with them. I’m going to miss it, but I’m really excited to make these last memories.”
Del Val’s production of “Back to the 80s” performs on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Viewers can expect to be transported back to the most ‘radical’ decade of all.
