The “Fight Unlawful Conduct and Keep Individuals and Communities Empowered Act,” also known as the F.U.C.K.I.C.E. Act, was introduced on Feb. 24 after a series of ICE deportations in New Jersey and has created controversy around the lewd acronym.
The act follows the purchase of a warehouse in Roxbury, New Jersey by the Department of Homeland Security, with plans to become an ICE processing center.
The act was sponsored by state assembly members Katie Brennan and Ravi Bhalla.
The language of the act “permits civil actions for certain constitutional violations related to immigration enforcement.” This language allows citizens to sue immigration officers for monetary gain for violation of constitution rights, as well as being illegally detained.
The bill was also introduced alongside a portal for any and all immigration concerns. The portal, Know Your Rights, allows New Jersey citizens to report ice activity, along with pro-bono legal services.
