Black Friday, known for major holiday deals, marks the start of the holiday season; however, not everyone thinks Black Friday is all that amazing.
Psychology teacher Rodney Jensen said that he previously worked retail for 10 years, including on Black Friday.
“I would rather have badgers chew my flesh off than go back to any kind of in-store shopping with any sort of crowded situations,” said Mr. Jensen.
Jensen said that if he were to go Black Friday shopping, it would be for something “big” such as a fancy appliance, but he would never go clothes shopping.
“I just picture people ripping each other apart to get the best deals,” said Jensen.
On the other hand, some people enjoy the thrill of Black Friday, including the crowded stores and fighting over deals; however, changes have been made over the years, and Black Friday hasn’t been the same.
Senior Emilie Trevithick said that she goes Black Friday shopping every year to start off her holiday shopping with her family.
“Over the years, I’ve started to see the hecticness of Black Friday go away, and the deals haven’t really been the same,” said Trevithick. “What am I gonna do with just 20% off?”
Trevithick loves saving money and the hustle that comes with shopping on Black Friday.
Others also choose to shop on Cyber Monday because it’s more convenient. For students and those who work, it’s easier to access online shopping than it is to shop in stores.
“I’m not much of a Black Friday shopper, but Cyber Monday is my kind of jam,” said senior Grace English. “I’m too lazy to drive to the store and shop, but I can shop online right here at school. You get all the deals and it just comes to your house. You don’t have to do anything but press a button.”
Black Friday is quite a divided day. While many believe it starts the holiday season, others wonder if it is worth the hassle.
