Gracie Abrams’s best-performing album, “The Secret Of Us,” got even better.
Originally released in June, “The Secret of Us” quickly became a major hit album, with songs like “Close to You” and “I Love You, I’m Sorry” breaking records. The latter, peaking at Number 9 on the US Spotify Chart, was a hit, gaining over three billion views on TikTok.
On Friday, Abrams released the deluxe version of “The Secret Of Us.” The album includes seven new songs: four originals and three live recordings of songs from the standard album.
“That’s So True” is the new song that stands out the most. Diving deep into the raw emotions of trying to move on, the lyrics describe the irrational jealousy and feelings of betrayal that everyone feels after a breakup. The song opens up with Abrams obsessing with her ex.
“I could go and read your mind / Think about your dumb face all the time”
Although she doesn’t mean to think about him, she can’t help it. Abrams feels utterly helpless and angry. Quickly throughout the song, Abrams’s tone grows jealous and sarcastic.
“Ooh, bet you’re thinking, ‘She’s so cool’”
This line illustrates the most accurate description of trying to move on. Abrams mocks the ex and his fondness of his new partner, because how could he possibly think she’s cool? After heartbreaks, it’s impossible not to make fun of exes and their new relationships.
Abrams does an excellent job cycling through the feelings of seeing your ex move on. Whether it’s jealousy, anger, desperation or plain sadness- Abrams covers it all.
This song is a recipe for a massive hit pop song.
Overall, “The Secret Of Us (Deluxe)” is a spectacular album and a lot of that greatness comes from the song “That’s So True.”
