Ariana Grande has had an incredible few months following the release of “Wicked.” Undoubtedly, one thing Grande consistently shines in is her music career. Her album “eternal sunshine,” and the recent release of its deluxe edition, has further solidified her place in the music industry.
“eternal sunshine,” which already contained incredible tracks, became an even bigger hit with the addition of new songs. On March 28, “eternal sunshine deluxe: brighter days ahead” was released — just over a year after the original album. The deluxe brought her fans five new songs and an extended version of one of the songs on the standard album.
Although Grande continues to face disturbing comments about her relationship status, body and other personal things, she shut them out with this album. Thought “eternal sunshine,” it’s clear she has dealt with healing and loss and has moved on from that personal baggage. Grande is outputting positivity and sunshine now, compared to years past, a sentiment reflected in the album’s title: “eternal sunshine.”
My ranking of the six new tracks:
6. “past life”
This song stand out as the weakest. While the harmonizations are melodic throughout, it feels plain overall. It lacks a sense of build up or emotional climax. It is not a bad song, it just doesn’t resonate strongly.
5. “Hampstead”
This song showcases the best vocals among the six tracks. It’s an emotional piece, yet the song stuns with strong harmonies and vocals. It highlights Grande’s growth as an artist and person.
4. “twilight zone”
This song has great beat and shows playfulness throughout the track; however, the meaning of the song is what stands out. Twilight Zone means a state of mind between reality and fantasy. This feeling is described through lyrics where Grande expresses how she doesn’t miss the person but is still in disbelief about the relationship.
3.”warm”
“Warm” is another upbeat song, and the arrangement of the melody is intriguing. The beat connects with the song and makes it even better. It’s a solid song and feels on-brand for Grande and her discography.
2. “dandelion”
Flirtatious and catchy, this song fits well into the theme of the entire album. Similar to songs like “Dangerous Woman” or “Side to Side,” this track explores the alluring side of Grande’s discography. It carries this theme throughout the lyrics in a subtle way. Overall, this song is an upbeat track that likely grow into a fan favorite. This was a clever way to make an enticing song but not make it so blatant.
1. “intro (end of the world) – extended”
This song is the best song of the six, as its production is outstanding. Just like the other songs, Grandes vocals are strong and even heavenly. Since the release of “Eternal Sunshine,” fans have been eagerly requesting an extended version of the track. Grande finally came through and delivered for fans. Every aspect of this song, from the instrumental to the vocals, create an addictive sound.
Each of these six songs draws from styles throughout Grandes career. Even if every fan might not feel drawn to every song, all the songs are connected in a way that creates a cohesive listening experience. This showcases not only growth, but Grande’s versatility as an artist.
