Key Club has once again brought the gift of giving to Del Val’s staff and students. The Marine Corps Reserve toy drive, Toys for Tots is underway.
While donations for this year’s drive aren’t going directly into the local community, Key Club president Bella Diaz is positive they are getting to the “right place and helping people who need it most.”
“They [Toys for Tots] come pick up the donations and bring it to military families and other underprivileged kids in more distant communities,” Diaz said.
In past years Del Val has had a toy drive, but more recently Key Club has collaborated with the Toys for Tots toy drive. So far donations have been very prosperous.
“We’ve had many really successful years where we get a ton of donations,” Diaz said.
Key Club members have provided many donations, however a large majority who donate do so out of “the kindness in their hearts.”
Toys for Tots has been accepting donations for just over a week and boxes are filling up.
Within Del Val there are four boxes where students and staff can drop off any donations; they are located in front of the Main Office, The Commons, Counseling Office and end of B Hall, by the doors.
“Not to be confused with the food drive boxes or holiday wreath decoration boxes, ours are wrapped and on them it says Toys for Tots,” Diaz said.
The Del Val community will have till Dec. 10 to drop off all new toy donations at any of the boxes.
“Everyone should really donate, we highly encourage it and it’ll benefit a lot of people,” Diaz said. “It’s a great cause. We encourage not just key club members, but everyone in the Del Val community to bring something in.”
