Del Val Thespians has announced their 2026 musical, “The SpongeBob Musical.” This musical will be directed by Alexandria Township School’s technology teacher, Stefanie Grossmann, with help from Del Val’s new choir teacher, Andrew Chojnacki, and dance teacher Heather Fleischman.

“The Spongebob Musical” is about Spongebob and his friends on a mission to save Bikini Bottom from an erupting volcano that will destroy the town.
“’The Spongebob Musical’ is all about fun, friendship and community. It’s colorful and silly and brings the audience into the fantastic world of Bikini Bottom,” Grossmann said.
This will be Grossmann’s first year directing a Del Val production. However, she has directed many of the ATS drama club productions. Grossmann has been problem solving with her fellow directors, while making the rehearsals silly, fun and productive.
“We talked about a bunch of different shows, and then we landed on something that we think would push our students, challenge them and excite them,” Fleischman said.
Fleischman is excited to choreograph her 15th musical at Del Val. She hopes that the audience will see how much time the students have put into their performance.
This musical has many different characters including Spongebob, played by senior Alex Apgar, and Sandy the Squirrel, played by senior Gail Drake. Drake has been apart of Del Val Theatre since her freshman year and was very excited once she saw the cast list.
“It was really exciting and it was also a huge relief because the audition process is very stressful for any theatre show,” Drake said.
Bikini Bottom also has a very colorful and lively set design. To make it happen the Del Val Thespians are collecting recyclables like water bottles and pool noodles, which makes this musical eco-friendly.
“I can’t wait to see the ‘playground’ that becomes Bikini Bottom get built,” Grossmann said.
The Spongebob Musical is coming to the stage on March 6, 7 and 13 at 7 p.m., and March 14 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“I think we’re going to sell out shows again, like we did freshman and sophomore year,” Drake said.
Details for ticket sales will be announced shortly, follow The Delphi on instagram for more information as it becomes available.
