The life of Alex Trebek
On November 9th, Alex Trebek, the beloved host of Jeopardy, passed away at 80-years-old after a year’s long battle with stage-4 pancreatic cancer. Trebek hosted over 8,200 episodes of Jeopardy over 37 seasons.
Trebek was born in Ontario, Canada, and he studied philosophy and journalism before becoming a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. A few years later he decided to go on to become a game show host, starting with Reach for the Top then followed by Jackpot. He landed his iconic role as the host for Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune in 1984.
“I’m just enjoying what I’m doing, I’m happy to have a job. I like the show, I like the contestants and it pays well,” Trebek said of Jeopardy in a 2014 interview for The Hollywood Reporter.
Trebek is survived by his three kids and wife, Jean Currivan Trebek.
