Theater season is in full swing at Del Val with the announcement of this year’s performances.
After having such an incredible 2022-2023 season, featuring “Puffs” and “The Addams Family,” this year is looking just as fun. On Sept. 6, the fall play and winter musical were announced at a theatre department meeting. Dozens of students attended to hear about the exciting shows that are going to take place on Del Val’s stage.
This year’s fall play director Lisa Cartwright is excited for what this year’s show has to bring to the stage. “The Play That Goes Wrong” is a comedy in which everything that is supposed to happen in a show, “goes wrong.” The play will also feature two student directors, senior Swara Modi and junior Kal El Fiorito.
“I did not choose ‘The Play That Goes Wrong,’ the students did.” said Cartwright. “It is a funny show and I’m excited to make it ‘fall apart’ here!”
Fall play cast members Nolen Petty and Alex Apgar are also very excited for this year’s show.
“I am most excited to show the audience how funny this play will be and that we worked very hard to make the audience crack up,” said Petty.
Apgar seconded Petty’s excitement.
“This show is going to be just amazing,” said Apgar.
This year’s winter musical director Clinton Ambs is also excited for what the winter musical has to offer.
Ambs has been directing Del Val’s musicals since 2008, with a short hiatus, and this is his first time directing “Newsies.” For those unfamiliar with this show, “Newsies” is a musical that takes the story of the Newsboy Strike of 1899 to the stage.
Last year’s musical “The Addams Family” was a thrilling show that was fun for all ages. Since last year’s production was so successful, the students were excited to learn what the 2023-2024 musical was going to be. When Ambs made the announcement, the cast members were overjoyed.
“It’s a true underdog story,” said Ambs. “It’s an amazing show. It’s absolutely incredible!”
