James Harden was recently traded from the 76ers to the Clippers and is off to an unfortunate start.
The 76ers traded Harden, P.J. Tucker and Filip Petrusev to the Clippers for Marcus Morris. According to people close to Harden, he was “ecstatic” to switch teams and wanted to start as soon as possible.
The team started the season with a 0-4 record; the most the team has lost by is 18 points, while the closest game against the Grizzlies was only a loss by 4.
Harden did not play as expected against the Grizzlies. Harden actually made the team worse when he was on the court. When Harden was on the court, the Clippers were losing by 28, but when Harden was sitting, the Clippers were ahead by 24.
In interviews with ESPN, Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said that Harden was being “too polite.” Lue does have hope for the team and sees a future for Harden with the Clippers.
Del Val students have weighed in on the Harden trade and its impact on both teams.
“I believe the trade was good for the 76’s side and I believe the Clippers are going to do the same as they had last season,” said freshman Amel Bontempo.
“The Sixers trading James Harden was a good choice because of two main reasons,” said freshman Sam Rukowski. “One being that he took up a lot of cap space which is money which doesn’t allow us to expand. Another reason is because he held the team [the 76ers] from progressing and held us back on both offense and defense.”
James Harden has had his ups and down in the NBA, but the Clippers hope he will grow to become a better team.
