Del Val senior Grace Jenkins broke a school field hockey record for number of goals saved, a record set during the 2011-2012 season.
Jenkins has been playing field hockey since sixth grade, and being a goalie has become one of her favorite hobbies.
“Field hockey has been such a huge part of my life, and playing throughout high school helped me reach new goals, make new friends and even break records,” said Jenkins.
The previous record was 457 saves, set by Mary Drabich. Throughout Jenkins’ high school career, she saved 479 goals. In this season alone, she had a total of 173 saves, surpassing her previous three years.
“Stopping the ball from entering the net has no better feeling,” said Jenkins. “Especially when you see the relief on coach’s face, and even my teammates’, it’s the reason I stuck with being a goalie.”
Jenkins has committed to Ramapo College of New Jersey for field hockey and will play as the goalie. Jenkins will also wrestle for Del Val’s first girls wrestling team, as well as track and field.
“You only get four years with your high school team, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to break a record with,” said Jenkins.
