In a groundbreaking move for international sports, the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles will kick off their 2024 season with a historic game in São Paulo, Brazil on Friday, Sept. 6.
This will be the first NFL season opener in another country.
“With the global growth of our sport being a top priority to our league, we embrace the opportunity to grow our fanbase around the world and bring Eagles football to the 38 million sports fans in Brazil,” Philadelphia Eagles Chairman Jeffery Lurie said. “One of the world’s most culturally diverse nations, Brazil is an international melting pot, and we look forward to experiencing its warm, vibrant, and welcoming environment later this year.”
The game will unfold at the Arena Corinthians, which holds 47,252 people. Known as the fortress of the celebrated Brazilian soccer team SC Corinthians, this iconic venue has also played host to major international events, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, making it a fitting stage for the NFL’s historic season opener in Brazil.
“This landmark first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. “Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions.”
The Eagles will play the Green Bay Packers. When they last played in 2022, the Eagles won 40-33 at Lincoln Financial Field. The Packers ended the 2023 season with a win against the Dallas Cowboys in an NFL wildcard round.
This highly anticipated season opener will be available for fans to stream exclusively on Peacock. While the exact streaming time has not yet been announced, the date is set and viewers can mark their calendars for Sept. 6.
