On Sept. 6, the Eagles and Packers faced off in Brazil for the first time in NFL history.
The NFL has been trying to broaden its fan base by bringing the sport to different countries. So far, they have been to Germany, Mexico, Canada and the UK. The game was played at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo.
The Eagles hosted a watch party at their stadium for the fans who could not make it to the game in Brazil. Tickets were limited to 10,000 despite Lincoln Financial Field’s 67,594 capacity.
The gates opened at 6 p.m., and as soon as my family and I entered, we headed to the line for the special access. Going on the field and seeing the locker room made this experience even better.
The Eagles went all out for this experience. They had food, a chance to take a picture with The Eagles cheerleaders, the fan shop and an Eagle there too. The Eagles drum line and cheerleaders were both there to try to emulate the experience.
By 7 p.m., the fans started to head to their seats and get comfortable for the game. There was still over an hour before the match kicked off, but that wasn’t a problem, as the Eagles had music blasting. DJ Diamond Kuts made an appearance and would be providing the music. They also brought out Eagles legends Hugh Douglas and Trey Thomas.
There was no shortage of energy throughout the game. Despite over half of the stadium being empty, it was still loud.
The game kicked off at 8:15 p.m., and the crowd was hyped. The game started rough for the Eagles, but the crowd was not deterred.
The Eagles scored a touchdown when Jalen Hurts threw a pass to newly acquired running back, Saquon Barkley, and the crowd went crazy.
The score at halftime was Packers 19 and Eagles 17. At that time, the Eagles displayed a drone show to light up the sky. It was a beautiful performance.
The Eagles came out strong with a touchdown after the second half began. The Eagles’s fight song played again, and everyone sang along. The Packers would not give up easily and stayed in the game until the end.
The game came down to the last drive, and the fans were on the edge of their seats. In the end, the Eagles prevailed. Fans went home happy, and as everyone was leaving, all you could hear was “E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES” chants.
It was an amazing experience, and the Eagles kicked off the season right with a night for fans to remember.
