Linkin Park released its new song, “The Emptiness Machine,” on Sept. 5, and fans are torn between the band’s new lead vocalist, Emily Armstrong.
“The Emptiness Machine” is Linkin Park’s first new song after being on a hiatus for seven years. This song also came with the announcement of the band’s first album since the death of Chester Bennington, the band’s lead vocalist, in 2017. The album is called “From Zero” and will be releasing on Nov. 15.
The choice for Armstrong to be the new vocalist did not come without backlash, with fans bringing up Armstrong’s previous controversies. Although there are mixed reactions, many other fans are optimistic and want to hear how Armstrong performs with the band.
Long-time fan Chris Boschen feels that Armstrong has a similar style of singing to Bennington’s.
“Their new song sounds a lot like what they’re old stuff did, so I see her filling the void pretty well, as long as they continue with what they’ve always done,” Boschen said. “They’ll continue to keep their fanbase that they’ve had, and her voice might actually bring some new fans so it could be a good thing.”
Even though numerous people are enjoying Armstrong’s voice, freshman Gauge Eastwood has different views on the song.
“This song doesn’t compare to what the band did with Chester,” Eastwood said. “It feels more fast-paced compared to other songs.”
With the recent news about Armstrong and the band, fans are ready to see how Linkin Park’s album turns out. They are becoming more excited by the minute, with the band having just released another song from the album, “Heavy Is the Crown.”
As the clock ticks down to “From Zero’s” upcoming release, more fans are deciding whether they like Armstrong as the new vocalist. Many fans are hopeful for her first album with the band, but others are waiting to hear the album before they make their decision on her taking over Bennington’s role.
“I’m not looking forward to the new album, but I think there could be at least one good song,” Eastwood said.
