As the 2024-2025 school year began, Del Val welcomed Carlos Chaparro, a new IT Technician.
When Chaparro walked into the school, he was immediately impressed.
“It’s such a great campus. The classrooms along with the tools and facilities are awesome,” Chaparro said.
Chaparro grew up an hour away in Hopatcong, NJ.
“I grew up basically on the lake, so before tech I spent my early years fishing, boating and just being outside,” Chaparro said.
Chaparro graduated from Hopatcong High School where he played baseball throughout his time there. He later attended his local community college, County College of Morris, and continued to play baseball.
He now lives at home with his two young children and enjoys cooking in his free time.
Chaparro knew he wanted to enter into the technology field from an early age.
“I would always visit my uncle’s house in Connecticut as a kid, that’s how I got into tech,” Chaparro said. “He always had these cool electronics, and if I fixed them, I could keep them.”
Before coming to Del Val, Chaparro spent the summer working as an IT intern at Sparta High School.
As an IT Technician, Chaparro’s job is to ensure teachers and students get the right resources, data and information in a safe way. He verifies that all the programs used to teach are secure and appropriate for school.
“I joke around and say that my job is basically anything that plugs into a wall,” Chaparro said.
Chaparro urged students and staff to come to him with any and all questions.
“Don’t be afraid to ask any kind of tech questions or any help, that’s how we learn,” Chaparro said. “I welcome any questions and anybody’s curiosity.”
