The MLB season is almost over, and the World Series is set to begin on Friday Oct. 25.
The two teams that will be fighting to call themselves World Series Champs are the Yankees and the Dodgers.
The New York Yankees finished the season with a 94-68 record and started their post season by beating the Kansas City Royals in four games.
Next, they had to get through the Cleveland Guardians, where they took care of business in five games. The series was full of close nail biting games. Despite the Yankees taking the series in five games, it was closer then it seemed on paper. The ALCS MVP would be given to Gincarlo Stanton. Stanton only had four hits in the series, but they were all home runs that proved vital to helping the Yankees advance to the World Series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers finished the season with a 98-64 record and started their post season off with a five game series against the San Diego Padres and then moved on to the New York Mets. They would win that series in six games. The series was high scoring throughout all the games, as offense has always been one of the Dodgers’ strong suits. Tommy Edman would bring home the NLCS MVP with a batting average of .341, one home run and 12 RBIs.
Going into the World Series, the Dodgers are favored over the Yankees, and the Dodgers have home field advantage as they finished the season with a better record.
The Yankees and Dodgers have a long history in the postseason, where they have met a total of 11 times, dating back to 1941 and most recently in 1981. The Yankees have beaten the Dodgers eight out of the 11 meetings.
Both teams have plenty of success in the postseason in their franchises’ histories, but the Yankees have the most storied franchise with 27 World Series titles. They also have the most postseason wins of all time.
However, history doesn’t matter; it’s all about what’s happening now. Both teams have a chance at winning their next title, and that chase will begin at 8:08 p.m. this Friday.
