On Jan. 2, 2025, Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley told reporters that he and the Eagles made the decision to have him be rested for the last game of the season. This decision denies Barkley the chance to break Eric Dickerson’s rushing record of 2,105 yards.
The decision came from Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni. Sirianni understands how big the record is to the league and to Barkley, but making sure that his team is well rested for the playoffs is the bigger priority. The Eagles have the number two seed, which couldn’t be improved upon.
Barkley was a little sad over not being able to rush for the record, but understood where the team was before starting the playoffs and knew the importance he had to the team.
So far, Saquon has given a show in the playoffs, rushing for a total of 442 yards and 5 touchdowns against the Rams, Packers and Commanders combined. This has helped the Eagles climb to the Super Bowl, with the team going up against the Chiefs.
The pressure is on for the whole Eagles team, as losing to the chiefs would allow them to complete the first three-peat in the Super Bowl. With the way both teams have been playing in their playoff games, the Super Bowl will be an amazing game no matter what.
As Sunday ticks closer, more and more hype comes in surrounding the event, with the halftime show being a big part of it all. Kendrick Lamar is the headline of the halftime show, with SZA being a guest in the performance.
With Kendrick Lamar’s recent domination at Grammys, his presence in the Super Bowl adds a lot more fans. Even if people aren’t football fans, they might still watch it to see the two artists perform together.
