On Jan. 21, 2025, Del Val’s first Take on the Marathon Challenge began. The challenge will run between Jan. 21 and March 21, and any student or staff member is welcome to join.
The challenge is run by the DVR Wellness Committee. The goal of the challenge is to increase the amount of physical activity in the community.
The Wellness Committee is a group of various teachers and students whose goal is to plan out various activities for the Del Val students and staff, such as the Take on the Marathon Challenge, as well as to get information out to help students and staff with their physical and mental health.
“We want Del Val to be seen, not as just a place where people send their children, but as a resource for the entire community,” Wellness Committee member Kristina Sterbenc said.
Prizes for students include points towards the Terrier Cup, as well as a chance at an Amazon gift card. There are three different levels of the challenge, and each enters participants into a different raffle for a gift card when completed.
Completing a Marathon, which is 26.2 miles (about 57,000 steps), will enter participants into a raffle for a $10 gift card, completing an Ultra-Marathon, 50 miles (about 112,000 steps), will enter participants into a raffle for a $15 gift card and completing an Elite Marathon, 100 miles (about 223,000 steps), will enter participants into a raffle for a $25 gift card.
The steps walked will be tracked in the OutWalk app. Participants need to sign up for the app using their DVR emails in order to participate.
