Three of Del Val’s students, junior Abigail Drake, freshman Sage Hason and senior Audrey Larue, represented their school by performing in the Central Jersey Music Educators Association Region Choir.
“The primary goal of the Central Jersey Region Choir is to provide students with a high-quality musical experience,” Del Val choir instructor Adrian Camano said.
All choir students had the opportunity to audition via online, and participants received callbacks if they were accepted.
“A handful of choir members auditioned,” Drake said. “We were sent materials, learned it together, recorded our auditions and sent them in.”
The students who got accepted into Region Choir had a lot of work to put in, and they had little time to do it.
“After being accepted, students participate in four intensive rehearsals leading up to the final performance the last two weeks of January,” Camano said.
The rehearsals were long and differed from the way students were used to doing things in Del Val’s choir.
“A lot of our music was sight reading,” Drake said. “There wasn’t time to learn parts individually the way there is in a school choir.”
The choir practiced once more throughout the morning before their afternoon performance at Monroe Township High School on Jan. 26.
This all-star choir had a great performance, and the members, plus the audience, all enjoyed themselves.
“I would do it again in a heartbeat,” Hason said. “I had so much fun in my section, the altos are so chill and the best people.”
