Rylee Hintenach is a freshman at Del Val who finished her first varsity season of basketball. She is a 5’4″ point guard. This position is responsible for moving the basketball around the court and keeping it in their team’s possession.
“Rylee has been a great addition to our team this season,” Benjemin Ibach, varsity girls basketball coach, said. “She has skill sets that set her apart from others in her grade.”
Hintenach has been playing basketball since she was in kindergarten. She used to play on a recreational team for the Delaware Valley Basketball League. This league she participated in is a local program, with games and practices being held in Holland and Alexandria Township. This program helps develop athletes’ basketball IQ, along with their playing abilities. Hintenach was a point guard from kindergarten through eighth grade, and continued her role into high school.
“Rylee’s character is what I am most impressed with as a coach,” Ibach said. “She is a caring teammate and one that the team can trust.”
Hintenach has lived in New Jersey for her entire life. She was a part of the 2024 graduating class for Holland Township Elementary School. Before coming to Del Val, Hintenach was involved in the student council and yearbook club at her sending district school.
She has shared her background on how the class of 2029 students can develop their extent of playing ability to make varsity in their first year of highschool.
“I believe anybody can make varsity,” Hintenach said. “If the athletes put in the work and show up to the practices, they most definitely have the potential to play at a higher level.”
Hintenach is a multi-sport athlete; she plays soccer, basketball and softball. In softball, which she has also played since kindergarten, Hintenach works as a shortstop or third. Although she is a diverse player, she has shared that she enjoys the environment of soccer and basketball the best.
“I feel you work more together as a team,” Hintenach said.
Hintenach couldn’t do this alone, her teammates have been helping her through the season, as she is one of the youngest players on the team.
“Rylee has had her teammates support all throughout this season,” Ibach said. “Being the only freshman on varsity is not easy, but she handles it well.”
Hintenach is excited to see what her future sports career holds.
“I am so grateful that I have this opportunity to play basketball at this level,” Hintenach said. “I love all my teammates and my coaches.”
