Del Val’s award winning literature magazine, Changing Perspectives, added a new Columbia Crown Award to its long list of accomplishments.
On March 21, 2025, Columbia University announced the winners of the highly prestigious Gold Crown Award. Only eight other schools in the nation received this award, reflecting the outstanding work of Del Val students.
“If this award is anything to go by, we really did succeed in making a beautiful finished product that represents the talent and creativity of our community at Del Val.” Daniel LaGuardia, the Changing Perspectives 20232-24 Editor-in-chief said.
Their latest issue, released in 2024, is called “Taxonomy.” Some of their other issues include “Continuity,” “Something Blue” and “Odyssey.”
Ace VanDoren, a writer for Changing Perspectives, won a second place award in experimental fiction for their work “I Want to Go Back to Strangers.”

“I’m deeply grateful—and even more proud of the collective work and effort that brought the magazine to life and earned its own respective awards.” VanDoren said.
LaGuardia also won an award, the Certificate of Merit, in the traditional fiction category. He received the award for his story “Five.”
The magazine also runs competitions for students to enter, which can be found online. Changing Perspectives’s issues can be found on their website.
