The Delaware Valley Terriers took on the South Plainfield Tigers in the second game of the season and won in a shutout, 26-0, taking the team to a 2-0 record for the season.
“It’s opening night,” Del Val football head coach Ben Ibach said. “They love playing in front of their peers here at Del Val. We’ve got a great Dawg Pound, we’ve got great fans and we had a special night tonight. We honored some veterans and thanking them for their service that they’ve done for us.”
Friday’s home opener was kicked off with Del Val’s fall pep rally. Students gathered to hear from Athletics Director Lance Jacobs, Del Val’s sports teams and fall play tech crew member Gwen Taffera.
The theme for the night was “USA.” Before the game, a moment of silence was observed for the victims of the 9/11 attacks. Then Del Val honored veterans who work at Del Val as well as some in the community.
“There’s a lot of positivity today,” Jacobs said. “[We] Started with the pep rally and then carried over with that momentum into tonight’s game. There was a lot of good feel good moments tonight, too, and recognizing some of our veterans at USA [night]. I thought our student sections did a wonderful job in representing the team, supporting the team and also it shows out on the field the way we played tonight.”

The Terriers scored the first touchdown of the game, however, the team missed the kick, making the score 6-0, which would remain the score until the second half.
Del Val scored another touchdown early in the third quarter, and the Terriers never slowed down after that.
South Plainfield fumbled multiple times in the third, and Del Val was able to recover them.
By the end of the third quarter, the score was 19-0 with Del Val continuously making strong plays.
Del Val fumbled twice in the fourth, but both times the Terriers were quick to recover the ball.
The Terriers got a rushing touchdown with 9:13 left in the fourth, making the final score 26-0.
“It’s another win for us, which gives us a 2-and-0 record, and we’re trying to get better every day and again I think we took a step closer to that tonight,” Ibach said. “We had some different guys step up tonight from last week, and like I just told them, we’ve got to continue to stay hungry.”
