When choosing a sport, many students follow their interests or passions. That was not the case for Allison “Ally” Moschberger. When she heard the Del Val girls soccer team needed a goalie, she answered the call.
Having never played soccer before, Moschberger dove headfirst into the position.
“I know they needed a goalie, and a lot of the girls on the team are my friends,” Moschberger said. “I thought I might as well just do it.”
Moschberger’s presence on the team filled the goalie spot when no one else stepped up, allowing last year’s players to keep their previous positions.
“Our other option… would be Klaudia, but Klaudia’s a very good defender, so having Ally there makes our team better. A big thank you [to Moschberger] and keep working at it,” David Kirschenmann, Del Val girls soccer head coach, said.
This isn’t the first time the girls soccer team has been left without a goalie. During the 2024 season the JV goalie, with no varsity experience, had to be thrust into the position. History repeated itself, as the 2025 season was no different.
“It is really the second year in a row [without a varsity goalie] because Tess [2024 varsity goalie] was in the program, but it was her first year varsity last year. So, it’s unfortunately something we’re kind of getting used to,” Kirschenmann said.

Soccer isn’t Moschberger’s only focus. She primarily plays softball and is committed to Stockton University’s team. Before joining the soccer team, she played 10 years of softball.
“Softball comes much easier to me, soccer has been harder to get used to and understand,” Moschbeger said.
Del Val girls soccer senior night will take place Oct. 16 on the turf, where Moschberger will be in goal. This year has been a step up for Moschberger, but she has taken every challenge in stride.
“This year is a lot more intense with the varsity-level competition, and same thing with the girls on my team; it’s a much faster pace game than it was on JV,” Moschberger said.
