Del Val honored the volleyball team’s six seniors in its game against Hackettstown on Oct. 20.
Coach Green recognized each senior, giving gold roses to them and their parents, along with a personalized message to each girl before the game began.
Since this was their first time playing Hackettstown this season, the team didn’t know what to expect. The game started with all six seniors on the court, playing their hardest but losing the first set 13-25.
To win a set in volleyball, a team must score at least 25 points and lead by two or more.
In the second set, Del Val gained momentum and pushed the set into overtime. The game went back and forth until Del Val lost the set 25-27. This resulted in the end of a close game, with a win for Hackettstown, a final score of 0-2.

Despite the loss, Del Val showed their tough resolve in the second set when going into an extended game. The girls have shown this throughout the season by playing every game with dedication.
“It was electric,” Green said. “You always worry about Senior Night because they can be really emotional, but this year they took those emotions and they really tunneled them in a great way. Hackettstown was just coming off a huge tri-county win, but they didn’t let that intimidate them, and they came out and played some of the best [volleyball] ever.”
