Most schools induct alumni and former staff members into the famous Athletic Hall of Fame; however, Del Val also honors its artistic students in the Arts Hall of Fame.
On Nov. 15, a diverse group of ten alumni and former Del Val teachers were inducted into the Arts Hall of Fame, many of whom were able to revisit the school after years away.
Every two years, approximately ten individuals are inducted into the hall of fame, meaning only 50 people are invited into the selective society each decade.
Former teachers and alumni can be inducted into the Arts Hall of Fame through different categories. For example, the cast and crew of the musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone,” were nominated for their performance and ability to bring magic onto the stage. Emmy award-winning alumni Ellis Stanton was elected into the Arts Hall of Fame by Billy Gregson, the TV Media teacher, for her TV media and broadcast journalism skills.
“I would just like to thank the administration for supporting TV Media,” Stanton said. “It’s not really common in a lot of schools.”
At Del Val, the arts, including choir, jazz band, marching band, photography, ceramics, drawing, theater, dance and journalism are valued.
“All schools have an athletic hall of fame, but not a lot of schools have a performing arts hall of fame,” inductee Jay Durner, a former music teacher and band, musical and marching band director, said. “I’m so impressed that Del Val has taken the initiative to put that together.”
