After four years of anticipation from fans all over the world, the 2026 Winter Olympics will return Feb. 6-22, 2026.
The Games will be co-hosted by two cities in Italy: Milan and Cortina. This is a historic moment as it is the first time that two cities will both be hosting the Olympics. Separated by over 200 miles of mountainous terrain, they bring geographic diversity to the table this year.
Sports that will be contested in the Olympics include alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, ski mountaineering, snowboard and speed skating.
With the Olympics approaching fast, Team USA has released its rosters and will be competing in every event in the Olympic Games this year.
The team has multiple past Olympians and Olympic medalists returning, including Mikaela Shiffrin, Cayla Barnes, Evan Bates, Madison Chock, Red Gerard, Alex Hall and 0thers.
Among these athletes are NHL players, who are returning to Olympic competition for the first time since 2014. This year, each NHL team has at least one player represented in the Olympics.
A new event will be making its Olympic debut: ski mountaineering. The sport combines uphill climbing and downhill skiing as an endurance discipline.
The 2026 Olympics are also the most gender-balanced Winter Olympics in history. The Games this year will feature 47% female participation.
