Del Val students and the Buddies program joined together to compete in a school cornhole tournament for the first time on Feb. 20.
Throughout the years, the Gold Gym has been hosting cornhole games during lunch. Alexa DeWire and Dana Stem, paraprofessionals at Del Val, saw this and thought it would be great to bring this to the Buddies program.
“We knew that it [cornhole] was a big thing in the community, and a lot of people in the school enjoy to play it,” DeWire said. “We see them playing at lunch in the Gold Gym, so we thought that it would get a lot of people to sign up.”
Students got paired up with Buddies students to compete. Chelsea Coffin and Mikey Wojcik were partnered up and enjoyed themselves.
“Me and Mikey won a lot of games, and I was really happy to see him really happy,” Coffin said.
In the end, Evan Strochak and Chris Cialone won the tournament with 30 seconds left in the match. And even though there were some sad players, they all had fun competing.

“I think we could have done better as a team, but I think overall, we did pretty well,” freshman Aedan Komoroski said.
Along with cornhole, the Buddies program also will host a spike ball tournament next month.
“We’re going to have Spikeball next month, so look out for that and the sign ups,” DeWire said.
