Basketball season has started with practices and games underway. The Del Val Girls Basketball team is led by Coach Haughey who will be going on his seventh year of coaching the sport. The team is also led by seniors Ellie Hirst and Shelby Pyatt.

Coach Haughey believes that this year the team has a tough divisional schedule and will rely on the experience of the upperclassmen on varsity, as well as the younger girls with less experience, in order to have a successful season. Coach Haughey’s goals for the team are to make the playoffs for another year and “coming together and mixing [the veteran and new players.” These younger players will get time on the court with the Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams.

Coach Haughey mentions the strengths of the team this year will be due to the size of the team. “We should be a good rebounding team. I think we should be a physically tough team. I think we should be a good defensive team,” Haughey said after practice. So far, the team is 3-3. Come out and support the Del Val Girls Basketball Team in their first home game against North Planfield on January 11th.
